Video case studies vs. written testimonials: which wins for B2B firms?

Social proof is essential in B2B. But the form it takes changes how useful it is. A written testimonial is easy to collect. A video case study is harder to make. The difference is that one sits on the page and the other sells the outcome.

Written testimonials: the safe option

Written testimonials are quick, cheap and easy to place anywhere. They reassure visitors who are already interested. But they are also invisible to people who are still deciding, and they rarely explain the transformation in detail.

Use written testimonials for confirmation, not persuasion. They work well beside a contact form or in a proposal deck. They do not usually win attention on their own.

Video case studies: the proof

A video case study is a short documentary of a result. It shows the client, the problem, the process and the outcome. Because it is visual, it carries emotion, detail and credibility that text cannot match. It also performs better on LinkedIn, in pitches and on your website.

  • Prospects see themselves. A real client describing a similar problem is instantly relatable.
  • Teams share it. A video case study travels inside an organisation in a way a PDF does not.
  • It lives forever. One good case study can be cut into clips, quotes and social posts for years.

How to use both

We recommend a hybrid approach. Lead with video case studies on your homepage and key service pages. Use written testimonials as supporting proof on detail pages and in proposals. That way you get attention and confirmation in the right places.

The production reality

A good video case study does not require a full production crew for every shoot. One planned interview, a few cutaways and a clear story are enough. We often record a case study at the same time as a brand film, so the marginal cost is low.
